The Bothy - Edinburgh's First Community Asset Transfer

'The Bothy' now belongs to the Friends group. The sale is the first Community Asset Transfer in Edinburgh, and we have already begun it's restoration.

The Bothy will continue to be the base for our activities, but it will also become both a window on the park and a classroom. We're looking to develop educational material and link up with local schools to encourage more outdoor learning and increased use of the park.

The Bothy will also be used as a base for more local activities to encourage physical activities, be that our events and activities, buggy walks or any of the great activities organised by Edinburgh and Lothians Greenspace Trust. Watch this space, lots done and lots more to be done.

We'd like to place on record our appreciation for the support we've had from a range of organisations. First of all, the council has been critical of course, and has given us the opportunity to buy the Bothy. Other organisations include:

  • The One City Trust

  • MyPark Scotland

  • The Mushroom Trust

  • Action Earth

  • The Community Ownership Support Scheme

We'd like to thank all of these orgaisations for their help. They've been brilliant. The Bothy transferred to the Friends group at the beginning of the 2019, and work was carried out to replace the roof right away.

Please help us by donating to carry out even more work on restoring the Bothy and improiving the park.

Donate to Help the Bothy - Over £17,000 Raised So Far

Help us improve the Bothy by making a donation through MyPark Scotland. MyPark Scotland has been a great supporter of the Friends group and the park for many years. They've been great and created a link so people can donate to help renew the Bothy. Just click the link below and help us make the Bothy a hive of activity to learn about and improve the park.

The Bothy roof has already been replaced by local conmtractor Mitchell Roofing, which is based in Captain's Road. As you can see from the pictures, the inside needs transformed as well, so please give a donation of whatever you can afford to help.
