One of Edinburgh's Finest Green Spaces

Set up in 2008, the Friends of Burdiehouse Burn Valley Park is a small a but enthusiastic group of supporters who work with the City of Edinburgh Council and local residents to help look after and improve the park. Burdiehouse Burn Valley Park Nature Reserve has an array of great areas to explore from mature woodland to more open grassland, but many local residents still don't know that it's there or how lovely it is. The park is twice the size of Princes Street Gardens and stretches from Gilmerton Road all the way up to Burdiehouse Road two miles to the south west.

Friends activities take place every month and are usually held on the second Saturday of every month starting at 10am. We regularly arrange nature walks and events as well.

The group also produces a regular eNewsletter. Please follow us on Facebook and Twitter as well for more information about all the activities in the park. Despite being a small group we have one of the most active Friends groups, and we are working hard to make the park one of Edinburgh's finest green spaces even better.

Get involved and you too can see how an active group of local people can make a big difference to a fantastic park and nature reserve

Working in Partnership - The Natural Heritage Service and the Council

The Friends group helps look after the park, we do that in partnership with the council and the Natural Heritage Service. Just click the button for more information about the Natural Heritage Service.

Mission

‘Our aim is to make Burdiehouse Burn one of Edinburgh’s best and most successful parks, recognised for being an important local community resource and a park in which wildlife and residents can thrive together in an attractive and welcoming environment.

The Bothy

The Bothy is the former 'parkies bothy' beside the shops at Gilmerton Dykes Street. The Friends group has purchased The Bothy and is currently fundraising to restore and improve it. We have used The Bothy as our base for more than a decade.

This year's clean up is our fourth (and biggest) annual 'Big Spring Clean'. With eight clean ups across south Edinburgh, this is our most successful programme ever.
